Overview

About forestry mulching & scrub clearing

Mulching turns standing gorse, broom, scrub and small trees into a mulch layer in a single pass. No burning, no windrows to deal with, and no truckloads of green waste to cart off. The mulch breaks down into the soil and the ground is usable again straight away.

Our fixed tooth heavy duty mulcher handles trees up to about 150mm with ease, which covers most regrowth gorse and scrub in this part of the country. It runs off the excavator rather than a tractor, so we can work banks and faces that a tractor mounted head cannot safely reach. Available for jobs across Nelson, Tasman and Golden Bay.

Good for: Anyone with gorse, broom or scrub taking over a block, plus forestry owners needing roadsides, skid sites and boundaries cleaned up.

Why it matters

Worth booking in

01

Nothing to dispose of

Everything ends up as mulch on the ground, so there is no burn pile to consent, watch or cart out.

02

Usable straight away

Stock can go back on and you can walk it the same day rather than waiting on a clean up.

03

Gets the steep bits

Because the head runs on the digger, banks and gullies that a tractor cannot safely sit on are still in reach.

Our approach

How we do it

We walk the block with you first and agree what goes and what stays. Native regeneration, fence lines, young plantings and drain edges all get worked around. On steeper faces we work top down so the machine stays stable and the mulch settles evenly behind us.

How it works

What to expect

01

Tell us about it

Call or message with a couple of photos and a rough idea of access. That is usually enough for us to tell you what machine it needs and roughly what it will cost.

02

We look at the site

For anything bigger we walk the site with you. Where the spoil goes, how water runs off afterwards and how we get the machine in all get sorted before we start.

03

Job done, site tidy

We work through it, keep you posted, and leave the ground in a state you can use. If we spot something that will cause you grief later, we will tell you.

When to book

Signs it's time to get us out

If any of these sound familiar, it's worth a quick call, we're always happy to advise before you book.

  • Gorse or broom is creeping across a block you want back
  • Boundaries and fence lines have disappeared into scrub
  • A forestry road or skid site needs opening back up
  • You want land cleared without burning or carting waste
Questions

Frequently asked

How big a tree can it take?
The fixed tooth head handles up to about 150mm with ease. Anything bigger we can talk through, often it is felled first and then mulched.
Will the gorse come back?
Mulching knocks it right back and gives you a clean start. Follow up spraying or grazing is what keeps it down long term.
How much can you clear in a day?
It depends heavily on density and slope. We will give you a realistic estimate after seeing photos or the block itself.
Do you travel to Golden Bay?
Yes, the mulcher works across Nelson, Tasman and Golden Bay.
