Overview

About rock walls & slip repair

Most slips we get called to were not bad luck. They came from poor water management and overspoil sitting where it should not, and once the ground lets go it keeps going until the water is dealt with. We repair the slip, then fix the reason it happened.

Rock walls do a lot of work on this sort of country. A well built rock retaining wall holds a bank back, opens up flat ground you could not otherwise use, and handles water far better than most alternatives. We also line gullies and outfalls with rock so fast water has somewhere to go without cutting a new channel.

Good for: Rural and hillside property owners dealing with a slip, an unstable bank, or a gully that is scouring out after heavy rain.

Why it matters

Worth booking in

01

Fixes the cause

Rebuilding a slip without sorting the water just buys you time until the next big rain.

02

Gains you usable ground

A retaining wall often turns a wasted bank into flat ground you can build on or park on.

03

Built to take water

Rock walls drain freely, which matters far more than looks when the weather turns.

Rock Walls & Slip Repair
Our approach

How we do it

We look uphill first. The repair only lasts if the water that caused it now has a clear path somewhere sensible. Then the bank gets cut back to stable ground, the wall goes in with proper drainage behind it, and the surface above gets shaped so runoff is directed away rather than over the top.

How it works

What to expect

01

Tell us about it

Call or message with a couple of photos and a rough idea of access. That is usually enough for us to tell you what machine it needs and roughly what it will cost.

02

We look at the site

For anything bigger we walk the site with you. Where the spoil goes, how water runs off afterwards and how we get the machine in all get sorted before we start.

03

Job done, site tidy

We work through it, keep you posted, and leave the ground in a state you can use. If we spot something that will cause you grief later, we will tell you.

When to book

Signs it's time to get us out

If any of these sound familiar, it's worth a quick call, we're always happy to advise before you book.

  • A bank has slumped or slipped after heavy rain
  • A gully below the driveway is scouring out
  • Overspoil from an old job is sitting on unstable ground
  • You want a bank retained to gain flat ground
Questions

Frequently asked

Do I need a consent?
It depends on height, location and the council. We will tell you when we think you need to check, and can work in with an engineer.
Where does the rock come from?
We arrange supply and cartage as part of the job, unless you have suitable rock on site.
Can you get to it in winter?
Often yes, though very wet ground can make things worse. Sometimes the right advice is to stabilise it now and do the full repair once it dries out.
Is slip repair covered by insurance?
Some slip repairs are. We are happy to provide a written quote for your claim.
